The ideas behind the film
Associate Producer
Helena B. Scott
Public historian, cultural heritage specialist and Jungian scholar whose research spans Western esotericism, the Knights Templar and the sacred feminine. Her forthcoming Yeats book, begun in 2024, informs the film’s reading of the thirteenth cone through Gnostic symbolism, the sacred feminine and Jung’s transcendent function.

The book
A Vision
Yeats's account of history and the soul, first issued privately in January 1926 in 600 copies, then rewritten for the edition of 1937.
Geometry
The Gyres
Two cones that interpenetrate, the apex of each at the centre of the other's base. As one widens the other narrows, and the movement never stops.
Geometry
The Great Wheel
Twenty-eight phases of the moon, from the dark of Phase 1 to the full moon of Phase 15, onto which Yeats mapped every kind of human life.

The title
The Thirteenth Cone
Beyond the gyres lies a figure that is “a sphere because sufficient to itself; but as seen by man it is a cone.”
The source
The Automatic Script
Begun by George Yeats on 24 October 1917. The question-and-answer sessions that followed became the raw material of the System.

The orders
The Golden Dawn
Yeats was initiated into the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in 1890, after earlier years among the Theosophists in London.
